Sermon: Doctrine of the Church of God
by Mr. Mauldin 6/10/2017

Read a headline about SDA AND THEY ATE TEACHING ABSTINENCE

What do we teach?  What are our doctrines

““Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6:4-9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

That is a command. It is a person to person command. It's not a commission to the church but to parents. As a church we can aid in that task.

The church has a role but the parents are responsible for the teaching what is needed.

Our church history can be called our doctrine.

“Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6:1-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Seven doctrines of church

Go to perfection
Repentance
Faith
Baptism
Laying on of hands
Resurrection
Eternal judgement

Many years ago when we just started coming to church the thought of teaching and doctrine was new. I remember thinking before I was baptized what are the doctrine?  I could only think of two things. Can't spend Money on the Sabbath and I can't eat white bread.  Since then I have violated both.

What is our teaching and what do we put forth. Generally the Bible is the word of God and it reveals the nature of God. We teach that Jesus is the son of God the savior  and the path to the family of God. That the Bible teaches god is not a trinity but a family.

A lot of what is in the Bible is stories. Old Testament is about Israel kings and what they did. The New Testament is letters and what Christ did. We can use it to teach our kids and to see reminders for ourself. You can learn things when you are young but you keep learning and need to enforce

What have we thought in the last 2 weeks here at our church.

Revelations
Paul
Nature of gods commands in self defense
The nature of the spirit of God.

What message are we getting across to ourselves, adults and children?

As I was researching I read something interesting. Roman religion you are feee to think how you want to think but you must do these things. Such as sacrificing on certain days to certain Gods.

When we speak and teach things you don't have to be in a setting. It can be any subject or principles and you can find something in the Bible to weave into it. This was my primary way of teaching to my kids.

Last week tom was speaking about Saul rejecting God but Samson at his death repented. Samson did things which weren't good and yet in his last moments repented and died. A death bed confession. Is it better to repent young and follow God your whole life?  Yes but God respects deathbed repentance

The Bible reveals the nature of God. His nature is not hidden it can be found.

When it is a trinity it is a closed God head. But when you have a family it is open and can keep expanding and grow. Jesus is the pathway to salvation.

The Ten Commandments are the basics for learning how to love God and you neighbors or other men.

“And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. “You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20:1-8, 10-11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The first 4 are toward God. You'll notice we don't use symbols like a cross or fish. While we don't mind seeing it our tradition is to not use it. It doesn't do anything but hang there. In Moses time they put a snake on the stick and the people who looked at it were healed. Christ referenced this and he was basically put on a stick and we look to him for salvation, to be healed and saved. But it became a detestable idol.

““Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you. “You shall not murder. “You shall not commit adultery. “You shall not steal. “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.””
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20:12-17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The last 6 are regarding how to interact with people. We have to teach our children love and patience. Parents need patience. Sometimes parents learn with their kids. We got our last two right. Lol

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.””
‭‭Joshua‬ ‭24:15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

One goal can be that your children won't make the mistakes you make.

One of the most popular subjects in Christianity is judging. Don't judge. But what Jesus actually said:

““Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:1-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If you judge yourself you don't have to be judged by others. So if you see your own failings you'll be mercifully to others and not condemn them.

We teach as a congregation generosity.

People were talking about tithing. It is a long time teaching of the church. There are no police no enforcement but generosity is the general teaching. One of the ways to do that is to give a tenth to what you feel can help.

People who tithe always talk about how blessed they are for. It. All of us learn more from an example as to just teaching doctrine. You can't out give God. You'll get it back some other way. Cast bread on the water and it will come back to you.

The Bible is the source we can look to. It can be taught anywhere!
